annimae_evryd4y:  I bet the rug doctor does a more thorough job, i've never used one though. Buy some carpet cleaner from wal mart if you want to spot clean, but a can of carpet cleaner can be used to cover the entire area.

I used Woolite carpet cleaner on my bedroom carpet and almost cleaned the whole floor because I wasn't sure exactly where my kitten soiled the carpet (besides the obvious places), my whole room stunk bad before I cleaned the carpet, the can did a good job taking out any odors but it was hard work.

smpl5:  I have used a Bissel Upright deep cleaner for my home and rental condos. I have been very happy with it. It has worked on some pretty stubborn stains.

cutiepie:  Let me save you some money. I am a very picky person so maybe this will help you too. It might be a pain to go rent a rug Dr. but they are SO MUCH better then one at walmart. I bought one thinking I was going to save time and money and I would be able to clean my carpet anytime I wanted! WRONG! they just dont have the suction that a rug dr does.
But in all actuality, having someone come do it, is the best moeny you can spend. Call around and get the best price. Doing the rug dr is alot of hard work and will take you all day or close to it if you do your whole house. You have to keep changing the water out, and putting hot water in, it only holds a galon or two at the most at one time. Calling someone, it will be done in a couple of hours... The professional way is my top choice, but rug dr for sure if you want to do it yourself. Get the correct chemicals, and if you use the apolstry cleaner, make sure you get the anti-foam stuff that they sell with it. That stuff foams bad! Carpet cleaner alone for the carpet should be fine!
