starrwoode: take out on the deck or a cement driveway, soak down with hose, then put woolite on it liberally, and rub with your hands like you are washing a big dog, then rinse with the hose really well till there are no suds. let lay there and drain for a while, then lift up and let drain over a railing for a while, then when most of the running water has quit comming out start shaking it, to help lift the hair, when you wash it do it gently, as wool will felt if you rub too much, thats why they suggest the dry cleaning. it will take a good while to dry all the way,you could point a fan at it. then you might want to spray it with moth repellent when you are done.

the doctor: I believe it is corn starch that you can use as a dry cleaning agent just sprinkle it on dry rub it around with a brush it should lift the dirt off. Corn starch is also good for cleaning dogs and playing cards. good luck

Leslie S: I wash my small rug with woolite in the bathtub. Swish gently through the water to remove soil. Rise thoroughly in clean water.
I lay mine out on the deck in direct south sun. May take several days to dry.

a_phantoms_rose: Wash with Woolite by hand and after it air dries, use some kind of oil to soften the backing(skin). I use coconit oil, but any oil will do or even saddle soap. Just rub the oil between your palms and wipe it lightly over all the back. Then kinda knead the backing until it seems soft.
This will keep your rug like new.
