Will the Roomba get caught in the fringe on my area rugs?
Will the Roomba get caught in the fringe on my area rugs?
I am thinking about getting one.

?Gardener?: Hi, we have had a Roomba for the last couple of years. Just recently it broke, but Roomba replaced it with a brand new one because of the type of defect it had, for free.
Both models love chewing on area rug fringe like it was spaghetti noodles made for vacuum cleaners. You have to either pick up the fringed area rugs or choose to keep the Roomba out of the rooms with the virtual wall devices that come with it.
We love our Roomba and use it every weekend. That means our house stays a lot cleaner than it would otherwise, because we wouldn't drag out the regular vacuum cleaner that often. However, I still see the need to have a regular vacuum cleaner as well (for the area rugs, and for quick vacuuming jobs.)

I have a roomba, I love it. The instructions say to remove all rugs with fringe. So, I guess it will get tangled. I use the sensors provided to block areas with fringed rugs. (make sure the model you buy has the infrared sensors, not all do) You can also tuck finge under the rug and they will not get tangled. The only problem I have had was at Christmas time. The roomba went under the christmas tree and got stuck on one of the beads on the tree skirt. It just stopped cleaning the room and had to be recharged and started again. Hope this helps.

soccerwifeandmommy2: Yes the Roomba will 'eat' the fringe on your rug, just like a regular vacuum. You can either remove the rug or fold the fringe underneath the rug. The Roomba will also 'eat' cords and wires, just like a regular vacuum.
I have owned a Roomba Discovery for over a year and I LOVE it!!
It cleans better than any vacuum that I have ever owned. My Roomba even got an entire bottle of glitter out of my carpet! iRobot has great tech. and customer service. The web site has a great trouble shooting page for common issues. If you have a problem with in the warranty period (1yr. on most models)that they cannot fix iRobot will send you a new (not rebuilt) replacement robot. If you get a Roomba, make sure that you get a brush cleaning tool. Most models now come with one, but you can also buy one for under $5.00. The tool makes cleaning the brushes a snap. You will want to make sure you clean your brushes as needed to maintain optimal cleaning. You will also need to change your filter regularly. You can just replace them if you want, but you can also just gently wash the dirty filter with soap and water and let it dry overnight. Most Roomba models come with at least 2 filters. When one of my filters gets dirty I just put in the clean one and wash the dirty one, that way I always have a clean filter.
In my opinion the Roomba (and Scooba) are the best housecleaning products out there. They save so mush time, and do such a great job.
