I've been in the home decorating and remodeling business all my life and it's rare indeed that these people provide a service that your contractor won't do for free. It is incumbent upon the finisher to insure he understands your ultimate aim and performs the services necessary to achieve your stated goal. Remember, no one knows better then you what you like. Go with that as your starting point and all vendors will do their best to assist you and thereby insure a sale. The most costly thing you can do is give someone else control of your project and usually the level of satisfaction is decreased in the end.

StephanieInVA: Wow, I don't agree with that guy at all. What if you don't know where to begin and don't have the time to shop for the best prices or to help you stay within budget? Doesn't he watch any of those shows on TV ? ; )
I'd love to help you. Sorry I don't know where you live or what prices people in your area would charge. I would bet the best place to determine price is to first determine your budget. If you want to spend 2K and use most of your existing furniture you should plan on 20% going to the cost of hiring someone.
I'm basing that on what our contractor used to charge in addition to what the sub-contractors would charge when they did work on our place. Meaning, if the plumber charged our general contractor $400, the bill to us was $480 - our GC marked up 20%.
