Area Rugs Always Bunching Up. Any Advice?
Area Rugs Always Bunching Up. Any Advice?
I have carpets that I have laid area rugs on top of and they are contantly bunching up with all the foot traffic. I priced the area rug stays for carpet and they wanted an arm and a leg for a large piece of plastic. I would like to know if anyone else has some tips on how you keep your area rugs in place or a store where you can purchase these rug stays for relatively inexpensive. (The ones I looked at were almost 50$ a piece for a 5x8' rug)
I have already checked Wal Mart in my area and they only have the ones to keep area rugs on hard surface floors, I tried those and they dont work worth a darn on carpet.

eskie lover: I use double sided carpet tape to adhere my area rugs to the carpet. I buy it at the home depot or Lowes, it does not damage either the area rug nor leaves a residue on the carpet but keeps the area rug in place without creeping. A roll will cover approximately 3 5'x8' rugs.

waterskater: To be honest, you don't need a piece that big... I'd say maybe just a foot-thick piece for each end (2) of the carpet. Also, maybe try that stuff that you can get at like target for putting in cupboards, I seem to remember my mom saying it had the same effect... You might also see if they have any of the rug stays, they'd probably be much cheaper if you really do want to cover the entire underside.

corazondiablo: STOPP rug pad for 5x8 rug $6.99 at ikea.
you may also find a felted pad that could work better on the carpet at the store, it's not available online for me to link to. Price is comparable to the latex one. Of course, you can probably find the felted one elsewhere, too. Target has them, too.
It may be more cost effective to buy a really large one and cut it to fit if you have 2 smaller rugs, than buying two separate underlays. just a thought.
