Cleaning a wool rug?

Cleaning a wool rug?
My roommate completely trashed my wool rug-easier said to have hime get it cleaned but he moved out one day so now the burden is mine.
How do I clean a machine made wool throw rug? it has a few significant stains all over, but how could I also clean it over all?

kay:  Wool felts when subjected to heat, agitation, and high pH (and most detergents are high pH). I've had good luck cleaning wool carpet with human shampoo, highly diluted with plain water, and
applied with a regular rug shampooer with the brushes turned off... basically I spray on the cleaning solution, let it sit for a bit, and then extract the solution with the vacuum, several times, and then rinse and extract with plain water.

Spot shot is another possibility -- I've used it on localized staining, and then extracted any residue with plain water.

~Shortstuff~:  Have a pro do it for you. That's the best way. A pro will pro treat the stains before he cleans the rug. Not much water can be used on a wool rug or it'll shrink, so let a pro do it & make sure they're reputable.
