i have a question about in floor heating?
we live in a modular home which is already finished and has a full basement and i was thinking about adding in floor heat and my question is can i just secure the tubing to the bottom of the subfloor i know most in floor tubing is laid down then a thin layer of mortar or whatever it is called is put over the top but will the way i described work, also we heat or home with an outdoor wood boiler so it heats with hot water

Jorge H: it will work but you have to think about how much you floor is going to be raised and you may need a separate heating unit.

candyman: yes you can do a staple up installation. They make special heat panels that the tubing runs in and helps reflect the heat up.You then insulate after them to help even more. You will also have to install a mixing valve on the system to drop the water for the floor down to the right temp. This install is expensive and labor intensive.

JP2449: The reasons for laying the tube lattice in mortar is to protect it and provide a medium for even heat dispersal. If the tubing is exposed, the heat loss would make the system worthless. If you want to make it work, it would have to be well insulated on the bottom side, allowing the majority of the heat to transfer to the flooring above it. Good luck!

Bricky Local 9 PA: i have seen it attached to the subfloor in between the floor joists in the basement...call your local heating contractor and see how you could do this effectively...
