D*mn Puppy Pads!! Help me break the habit!?
D*mn Puppy Pads!! Help me break the habit!?
I brought my two westie pups home in November . To help the housebreaking process, I put pads down as soon as I realized that they thought my area rugs were really big pee pads.
Recently I decided to break the habit of peeing in the house because I am killing a forest with all the paper towels I am using to clean up the piss on my floor. When I remove the pads they still pee in the same spot.
I take them out in the morning. They do their business and then we come inside and I take a shower. While I am in the shower they seem to muster up some more pee and poop and leave me gifts to clean up, which adds joy to the already fun morning process.
If I leave them in their crate 98% of the time they can hold it. If I allow them to be outside the crate when I am not home they pee/poo on the floor.
How can I break them of this habit? Ive used the "guaranteed" pet cleaner and I have a dog walker during the day...
PLEASE HELP! I cant bear to smell pee in my house anymore!
These arent my first dogs - I didnt have this problem before and I never used the pads. Also, these girls can be outside ALL DAY LONG and will still come in the house and pee as soon as they get home! :(
Wow Monica, a genius such as yourself should practice reading better. Did you miss the part where I said they could be out ALL DAY LONG and still pee in the house?? Or how about when I wrote that this isnt my first dog, just the first time I have had this problem? Wow thanks for your profound advice!

Monica: You probably should have took the TIME to potty train them the right way. Not the lazy way by putting down pee pads.
EDIT: Yes, I read the question.
You said.....("brought my two westie pups home in November . To help the housebreaking process, I put pads down as soon as I realized that they thought my area rugs were really big pee pads.

This tells me that you decided to take th easy way out and use pee pads rather then actually train them to go outside. It does not matter if they are outside all day long. You still did not potty train them to go outside and not in the house. If your dogs were house trained then they would not be going potty in the house.
You taught them it is ok to pee in the house, so your pets think it is still ok for them to do that. Simple as that.

My female chihuahua refused to go outside when she was little bitty. She was determined to potty at the end of the hall. I covered that area in piddlepads until she got used to the feel, and then slowly cut the number of pads down to one, and then moved that sucker towards my males emergency pad in the bathroom corner. It worked. Was a pain for a couple of weeks, but did work. We now have 1 piddlepad in the bathroom for bad weather or if we aren't home, and she also goes outside, but she does not go in the hallway anymore.
I wouldn't move it more than 2-3 feet every couple of days, as you don't want them to get confused and go back to the spot they are comfortable with.
Good luck!

Try crate training her, to do this find a crate that is just enough room for her to stand up/turn around/ and lay down. Dogs don't like to be in their own mess, but if the crate is too big she will use one end to pee in. Also never use the crate as a form of punishment, you want this to be her own den.
Also keep her on a leash in the house and attach it to you, so you know when she is about to go and you can scold her and take her out immediately.
Also make sure you don't give her any food/water within 2 hours of bedtime this will help her sleep through the night without accidents...
Also small dogs have small bladders make sure she isn't alone for more than 3-4 hours if THAT! and when you are gone remember to keep her in the crate!
Natures Miracle is awesome with the smell both for you and the dogs won't smell it either so they won't go in that spot again!!
Hope this helps!!
