Puppy pee stench?
Puppy pee stench?
I have a 2 month old puppy that is in the process of being house trained. We keep her in our den at night and set out puppy pads. Every once in a while she doesn't quite hit the pad and has peed on our area rug. I've gotten all of the stains out of the rug but the room smells musty. Any ideas on how to get rid of the musty-ness????
Answers:
chet913: take the rug out clean it and then put it back when your puppy is done potty training

TheAimer: sprinkle febreze around all the areas the puppy has "left its mark", it neutralizes the odor not just masks it...

notmuchofacook: If you have padding, or a no- slip backing on the rug, that will hold the smell. You will have to remove the rug completely from the room and have it cleaned in order to remove the smell. If possible, replace the pad or backing.
Good luck.

Chosen Answer
kpid: Bio-Zet laundry powder made into a paste.
Urine Off - a bioenzymatic spray.
Anything like this - they will break down the bacteria and enzymes causing the smell.
Also try white vinegar diluted with water. I've had miracle results in my own house from that! I doubted it but it really works.
These are the things I recc to my puppy owners at preschool

marci452: Fabreeze is just a temporary air freshener and only last a a few hours. For a long term solution. get Nature's Miracle or some other agent that kills the bacterial that is causing the oder.
