Need theme for toddler girls room, needs to be interactive and grow with her...?
My daughter will be 1 and a half at christmas time. I would like at that time to redo her room because at this point she will most likely be ready to convert her crib to toddler bed and such. Right now her walls are light yellow on top ivory trim and chair rails, and sage green wainscoting on the lower half. I want to leave the wainscoting there and the chair rail. Her carpet is also sand colored burber, but that can be changed. I think I want to do a bamboo wood flooring with a large area rug. So my question is what theme should I choose? I dont want something generic and charectory. She hasnt ever seem TV and dosnt know who any of the cartoons are, so that isnt even an option. I want something fun and girly, but not froo froo over the top. I want it to be liveable and to grow with her until 5-6. Also I would like it to be a functional theme to sort of play off of/with. All that needs to stay in the room is her convertible crib/toddler bed, a bookshelf, and her dresser/change table.
I have a rocker that is sage microsuede. But that can be placed in storage if needed. All of the wood is cherry as well. I would like some ideas for colors, and would also like to include a mural. So ideas for that too please. Do you think I should do wood with a large area rug set to the theme, or a colored carpet? Please no Dora, barbie, type suggestions.

I did have one idea I really like but am not sure what colors or how to execute...like maybe a salon/beauty shop theme. But then what would I pick for like beading and linnens as well as colors and decor. I am thinking I want something a little more whimsical and siry looking then that though.

iamnotacriminal...:  When I was a little kid my wallpaper had little hearts and there was wallpaper trim on the top and middle of the room with giant alphabet letters. When I got to be seven or eight we changed the theme to kittens. The kitten and heart wallpaper is still there but we moved from that house four years ago (I'm fifteen now). My new room has one wall as a beach mural and the other walls pink and turquoise, with a sand carpet. So those are a few ideas for different age categories. I think most little girls would be pretty into the kitten thing. My neice's theme is ladybugs, she loves them and her nickname is "Bug-Bug." An animal is always a good theme for a child. If she has a favourite colour, perhaps try to incorporate that into the room. Good luck!

jessicer08:  i think the salon theme is a good idea and you could use a lot of different color pinks and black!!
Some other themes include
~A Garden Theme: with light pinks, greens, yellows and some purple and you could even paint some flowers along the walls and maybe paint shutters against the windows to make it look like she's looking into a window
~A Tropical Room: lively colors would make it really pretty, some turquoise and bright pink!!
~I always wanted to do Princess for my daughter someday and make a cute little princess canopy in the corner to put a little shelf and chair for maybe a quiet time or something with a little lamp.

another idea i really like is to take some wood and paint it or finnish it and make a cute little stage in the corner because little girls love to perform and that could be encorporated into the garden theme because it could be the little patio or something... actually it could be incorporated into any theme. have fun. hope i helped. let me know what you decide!

boi~crazyy:  when i was younger i wanted my room to be like a jungle. the trim on the top of the room was little tigars peking over some vines! my mom was a good artist so she painted trees and over grown flowers and plants that opened up into a running stream! but im sure you could find a wall paper just like it!

something like this:

Although it is a bit expensive, the pieces are beautiful, and wonderful quality, and it will be easy to upgrade to a room a bit older for her. Also, this one is a bit older for her:

Good for you for straying from the generic rooms, and also, I think you should have a light hardwood flooring, with a nice area rug, but the choice is up to you. Best of luck
