Adrian C:  You ought to overlay the floor with 12mm plywood preferably bonded to the chipboard well screwed approx at 100mm centres then lay your heater mats . your tiles will need to be laid in flexi adhesive with flexible grout. Don't forget to install your flexi tube and heat probe. good luck

rob s:  I assume there the electric kind.. The way I always do it is lay 1/2 in cement board ,well nailed and I tape the joints w/ the thin set. Let dry and clean cement board well and lay mat and staple or tape the mat as flat as possible.. Then I pour a self leveling compound over the mat untill just covered. Approx one bag per 25 s/f of flooring. Some mesh may float to the top but w/ proper thin set coverage it ll be fine..GL
And sorry Adrain but I d never put in a plywood in a wet area such as baths...
