Am I the only one that finds home decorators on HGTV terrible?

I watch these "pros" go into peoples homes and redecorate it and it's always the same stuff. They add bamboo. Why is it always bamboo? They add palm trees or leaves from palm trees, more bambo, some "funky" green colors, and maybe some oriental stuff. Then "bam" it's all finished and they claim it's beautiful. Personally, I'm not into bamboo or palm trees. I live in jersey. Am I the only one that finds these decorators terrible?

Karan: Some of their stuff is really good, maybe you have something against bamboo, which by the way, is the IN thing now, because of the minimalistic decoration trend we are going through right now. They are fuss free, maintenance free and don't take up too much space. There is something to be saiud about bamboo, but where decorating is concerned, I prefer to use only what suits me, not what suits them.

timmy: it depends on the show & designer, I am all about regional design and think these like bamboo or really tropical motifs look stupid in midwestern homes
just like I wouldn't put a north-woods log cabin/lodge look in a home in Miami
these interiors are intended to make an impact on TV show they use bold colors and elements that can be theatrical and not practical for everyday use
I also hate the crappy reupholstering jobs and homemade crap on shows like Trading Spaces

Grandma of 2: Your hardly alone. What I have done is look for things that I might use myself in a room, without looking at the whole room scheme. Some of those rooms I wouldn't even consider living in. But there might be a couch placement, or picture display that looks appealing. I wonder how they get to be "Pros" with some of their taste. Many don't design for the everyday home.

WENDYCAT: I tend to like the Canadian HGTV shows like "Divine Design" with Candice Olsen and "The Stagers". They use color tastefully. For instance, if they use red (and Canadians love red), it's not an entire room like on Trading Spaces but an accent wall or accessories. I agree that tropical motifs look ridiculous in Northern climates! "The Stagers" use traditional or modern furniture in neutral colors and add color with art. Try watching those show, I think you will like them better.
