Are home Decorators crazy lately?
I have been watching some HGTV lately, getting some ideas for updating my apartment and I have notice a couple of things.

Why are:

1. Designers allergic to the natural brick color - I notice this when every one of them wants to either paint over it, or cover it with something.

2. Designers thinking everyone likes glass tile back-splashes on the sink - again... more doing it than not, and it does NOT look good.

3. Designers wanting to use granite counter-tops in every single kitchen - calling it "durable" and a "good work surface". Granite is neither. Chips easy, stains easier.

4. Designers getting money from the candle manufacturing industry - why? why use candles in every single room?

5. Designers LOVE to paint wood - ACK!!! I pay good money for all wood furniture, why would I want to paint over it?

OK... my rant is over... anything else you may have noticed?
Ahhh, I forgot all about the red walls and ceiling fan removal.

I hate it they remove ceiling fans... one NEEDS them in some parts of the country.

Now, I did manage to pull off an accent wall of a deep red in the living/dinning room, but that is all, but would never do anything like that in a bedroom.

JeanneS:  The absence or removal of a TV, we all need to relax on front of it after a long day to unwind and even fall asleep on front of it, yet they always find a way of taking it away , this is not the real world at all .

creatrixbc:  After watching HGTV for several years, compulsively, I know what you mean. One of the latest trends is stainless steel appliances. My sister-in-law says she would never buy them again: they show every single fingerprint and those are hard to get off!

But decorating has trends just like fashion. Next decade, no one will have granite countertops (which they're now saying give off unhealthy fumes). Wood will be left alone; paint will be stripped off bricks. Still, TV decorators will always say, "Let's get started, we have a lot of work to do!" and still use candles in every room, thinking it gives the room a warm homey feel.

And only high-end designers know how to use red and dark colours on walls. The average dimwitted homeowner will mimic their show, slap on a coat of stop-sign red (in the bedroom!) and then wonder why everything in their lives goes to hell (?Police could not explain the apparent murder-suicide??).
