Taboo:  YOu notice gays in these fields you listed because they are often more flamboyant, outgoing, artistic, and thrive on social attention..making themselves and thier presence known. Gays in other fields often keep a lower profile. This is how the stereotype got going... visibility.

These 2 occupations are hardly representative of the gay male population as a whole. Gays in these 2 feilds tend to excell because of social and artistic perspectives that they often bring to the table.

*I ALWAYS prefer to have my hair cut by a gay guy..and If I had a remodel planned.. I would definantely consult with a reputable gay decorator.
