have you ever rented a steam carpet cleaner for area rugs?

have you ever rented a steam carpet cleaner for area rugs?
I have two large rugs, 9 X 11. One Belgian wool about 40 years old, one dhurrie about 20 years old. Light blue and green. It's been several years since a cleaning, they are just dusty & etc. The rug place here charges more than $100 each to clean them, I'm thinking about taking them on the porch and using a rented carpet cleaner, then draping them over the fence to dry. Please answer If you have experience!

Janny:  I have rented steam carpet cleaners and done both carpets and rugs. Bottom line: they don't work very well and leave streaks. You would be better off to call around and find a home steam cleaning service that would come to your home and do it. I found a service that is very reasonable near me and have been pleased with the results. Don't take them to a rug place. Call everyone in the area who will come out and get quotes...
