Home decorators a little help please?
My mom is ready to paint. Her living room is small and square. She has 2 windows facing northing in her living room and one window on the west wall. Is having 2 colors in a room like that suggested, one below chair line and one above chair line? Which should be the darker of the colors if so? Her carpet is a medium brown and her couch is deep green. IF I could sum her style into words I might say mid centuary country. Can I have some suggestions?
She wants my help and I am sure I don't quite have the know how she wants, but some color on her walls would be an improvement.

Carol: Since her room is small pick lighter paint color to open up the room and make it look bigger. There are lots of pretty neutral colors. My favorite is a light yellow. It brightens, goes with everything, and really lightens up a room! Unless the ceilings are high, I wouldn't use two different shades above and below chair rail, unless you paint strips above railing to add height to room

dilbertina: Its more fun to decorate as a team! Mid century country, sometimes needs a little kick in the pants (jeans of course) to get it to feel fresh and alive. I suggest a shade of spring green for the lower chair rail and a clean off white for above. Then she can add all her country decor to the walls. This should work with her furniture but give it a more uplifting feeling.

nanny: Lighter shades will work better. The deep green would be the anchor on the brown. I use a lighter green on the bottom and then the upper color could be a very light green. The browns could be used also. The key is to keep the colors in the same spectrum and accent with other colors - reds on pillows, pictures, etc. with some wood accents.
