I'd love to be able to keep an area/scatter rug in my bedroom, kitchen and living room but...?
my two little dogs don't know the difference between a rug and a potty pad. Does anyone know if I can treat the rugs with something so they won't pee on it? I think my apartment would look so nice with a few rugs in it. I have a tile cement kitchen floor and hardwood floor bedrooms.
My maltese never eliminates outside. She hasn't since I got her - she was 4 mos., now she's 3 years old. She waits until she is inside the house. When I take my chihuahua outside she'll go almost right away. My chihuahua, Sierra, goes either inside or outside, doesn't matter with her. She is the one that mostly pees on the rug(s).

quixoticalthoughts:  haha... you said potty. you shouldn't have trained your dogs to pee inside.

buy PETaPOTTY ... it has grass in it... train them with that.
it costs 250 though.

Lyn B:  You are a perfect example of why I don't suggest the inside pads. Those little guys don't know the difference.
You are going to have to start with one, easy to wash rug, and spend the time training them to not use it. You may have to actually leash them to you when you are home so you can watch them every minute. When you see them sniffing around the rug, tell them no and immediately take them outside. You will be surprised at how fast they will learn if you stay with it.

the Hammer:  I used to buy this spray called "No-Go" and that's exactly what it's for...

tango:  You say dogs so guess they are not pups. Start with one small rug you can wash and when the dogs go to go on it, say no-no and remove them to their correct one. You need to put the rug away when you are not there. It may take a few days, but dogs do learn new things. when you are sure they know its off limits, start another one. Just be patient and consistent. Good luck.
