Will electric in- floor heating, heat a porch?
Hi, we have a small unheated porch (4 feet by 4 feet). You have to walk through it to get to the basement, so we are planning on insulating it and thinking of putting in electric in floor heat under ceramic tiles. We live in Canada where it gets extremely cold in the winter, would the infloor heat warm the porch sufficiently? There is no basment below the porch if that matters. Thanks for your advice!

crispy: Sounds like it might be a good solution to your problem. I had an entire house in the Northern US with in-floor heating. The heat is a slower mechanism than a forced air system. You may want to consider setting the temperature at a set point and leaving it there all winter. Say 65 degrees or lower-save on the electric bill, but keep a constant heat source. Ceramic tile is a great choice-any kind of carpeting will not conduct the heat as well, and wood could warp. Good luck!
