Any Home Decorators?? Please help me decorate my room.?
I am moving in to a new apartment and need to decorate my room (that is the only thing I will be renting). I am moving in on November 1st but need to paint and decorate the room before I move in. I have no idea what color to paint the walls and unsure of the color of furniture I will buy. I have some pictures of the room. Keep in mind that the furniture in the pictures are no longer there and the walls were repainted white. One thing I am sure of is that I will be changing the tiles to wooden tiles. The furniture (bed, dresser, computer desk) will most likely be black or wooden color (my fave color is black, also I want to put up some black frames on the walls of my degrees and family pictures). I need a color that will be mature and sophisticated. I am 24 years old but need the room to say I am young and mature. Can anyone please help me or guide me to a perfect color for my room? I will be getting the paint from HOME DEPOT or BEHR. so any paints from there will be great. Thank you :0)

khole12:  The first thing you need to do is paint the walls a lighter color. Yellow background paint against the black frames will make a real contrast. Group the black frames and paint the other frames black to match.Black is mature and sophisticated. What is your second favorite color? A tea or sage green would be peaceful. Are you on a budget or can you afford to paint the walls different colors? Ex. You could paint the bathroom yellow or a metallic matte color while painting the rest of the wall tea/sage green or even a light grey would be sophisticated. The second thing is move the bed up against the wall to serve as a couch. You might want bed risers to utilize storage space. You might want a room divider for privacy and to make it seem bigger. Some bookshelves could serve as a room divider and your desk might mask the living room from the bedroom. You could paint one wall an complimentary color. Whatever you do, you will have to feel comfortable in it, because you will live there! It's good that your furniture matches and is black because black is a very sophisticated color. I would suggest making simple changes like changing the light fixtures and the drawer pulls into some more sleek and modern as you want a mature space. Such simple cheap measure can be very effective and often are.

?chipcheep?:  what is your fav colour, and paint in a light shade and maybe do the trims in a darker shade.

Do you have your bedding, choose a color from that to create your color scheme.

Lilly:  I think that a nice green would be pretty for a bedroom. The right shade would look great with black furniture and frames.

I also always like to leave a 6 inch white strip around the top of the ceiling. It makes the room look bigger and looks as if you have crown molding. It's easy to do with painters tape and creates an instantly classy look!

Another cool idea that I always liked was Uppercase Living stuff. It's reasonable and easy to apply and remove. (Vinyl lettering or phrases for your wall) There's TONS of categories and stuff to choose from, but you can also design your own if you want your name or a special quote or something. It's a really unique way to decorate and black would look awesome on a light green.

Lauren:  How large or small is your new room? If it's a rather small space you may want to choose a color that will open up the room and make the room appear larger than it actually is. The employees at Home Depot will be able to steer you in the right direction in terms of what colors will make your new space larger. It's usually the lighter softer colors that expand the appear of a room. If the room is large, I do know that darker colors bring warmth and coziness to the space. Colors like chocolate browns, deep burgundy can really give your room a warm and comforting feel.

I'm not sure if you've given any thought into including either a cabinet or furniture unit to display and hold a television in. I found this site the other day, ImportAdvantage.com and they have great TV lift cabinets and even Foot of the Bed TV cabinets that are so beautiful. We're in the middle of remodeling our family room and have been looking for a piece to hold our new flat screen TV. You mentioned that the furniture will either be black or natural wood tones, so you may like black Tao TV Lift Cabinet, http://www.importadvantage.com/Tao-63 This other TV Lift Cabinet, http://www.importadvantage.com/plasma-tv-lift is a bit smaller, so this may work better for your space. I'm not sure what other furniture piece you plan to include in the room.
