Will a rubber rug pad damage laminate floors?

Will a rubber rug pad damage laminate floors?
I have new laminate floors. I bought an area rug at Lowe's and a good quality rug pad there also. The rug has a jute backing. The rug pad was recommended for wood and laminate flooring. It is white with "holes" to allow the floor to breathe, I suppose. I lifted up the rug and pad today when I was vacuuming. I noticed that the pattern of the rug pad with the waffle holes is on the laminate floor. I didn't try to get it up, as the rug is under the bed also and secured by the legs of the bed. I can't move it. Is this bad? Should I look for another type of pad? This was Lowe's best and what they said to get. Any ideas?

FlowersYes:  Try a wet mop on a small area with rug and pad lifted to see what happens. Don't lay pad and rug back until quite dry. If marks stay I think the pad may be 'scratching' or etching the laminate finish.
