Is there a way to prevent the backs of my area rugs from falling apart?
I have these area rugs with rubber backings. The rubber backings start to flaking about 6 months after I buy them. This is true weather they are exposed to water or not. After they start, I am constantly vacuuming up after them and eventually, I have to replace them. This is frustrating. I wonder if there is a way to preserve the backing so my area rugs will last longer. Any suggestions?

T C:  I don?t know if this is a viable alternative or not?? but maybe purchasing area rug w/o the rubber backing, and using this underneath

Jahann and Sons Persian Rugs:  Make the switch to knotted carpets. They have no backing, no rubber, no glue, etc. The initial investment is higher than the rubber-backed area rugs, but if you're having to buy those area rugs every 6 months or so, you'll probably recoup your costs in about 2 years. Also, knotted rugs are the only type of area rug that have a resale value should you decide to trade or sell your rug down the line. If you're in the Washington, DC area, look up our shop. We'd be happy to help. Best of luck!
