How to replace wall to wall rugs with area rugs?
Now that we ripped up the wall to wall, we want to use runners and an oriental style rug going up the stairs. The upstairs hall is a very irregular shape. Any principles for making area rugs hang together?

There's a little more to the runner, tho. I'd staple that in place using a heavy-duty stapler. Otherwise it will slip and slide all over the place and come away from the stairs. (Trip hazard.)

I don't know what signifies quality such as fabric, pattern, style, etc.

I've tried Simple Solution, Nature's Miracle but cat keeps repeating this bad behavior. No health problems had him to vet. Tried placing litter box near the area. I need a good petstain remover and deterrent. Is Rescue Remedy a good product for curbing destructive behavior for newly adopted cat.

What type of area rug should I get?
I live in a 90 year old home with a lot of original features, including fir flooring. Our living room is brick red with off white (original) trim and moldings. We are living in my Grandmas huge 2 story house. We live in the 2 bedrooms upstairs (us in one and both kids in the other). She had taken out the carpeting years ago and since we moved in we have bought very lareg rugs due to it being very cold here in Oregon on a hard wood floor.

mixing styles with rugs?
I had purchased an offwhite area rug and want to put a 3x5 area over it in front of coffee table (high traffic area). The room is more of a country type feel decor-wise. Will an oriental pattern rug (burgundy, ivory, beige navy etc be a workble choice? There is a distressed turquoise hutch that I love. Maybe more of a rust /beige rug would be better? Can you switch wood floor panels?
My dining room has a section/strip of badly scratched hard wood flooring thanks to a horrible contractor who dragged all our new kitchen appliances over the floor surface. Would it be possible to swap the damaged panels with better ones which are currently in the middle of the floor? I have a dark oriental rug in my room, but I don't want to get rid of it. I have white walls and a baby blue carpet underneath the area rug. I have a vintage green desk and two light wood bookcases. So have these nice oriental rugs from overseas. But, they're in the unfinished basement, in the workout area.
I vacuum them and steam clean them occasionally. However, they get filthy quick since people workout there.
They're about 20 years old too.
Anyways, I was doing a push up, and inhaled near the carpet, and ugh!
I don't feel like constantly vacuuming the area. It'd be like standing under a tree with a leaf blower.
